Hi, I’m Alma

As a child, I loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian. As a high-schooler, I decided that being proficient in computers would open more doors, so I got my degree in computer engineering and went on to work at a software company.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I was incredibly fortunate. I still had a job, and we were directed to work from home full time. Suddenly I had loads of time, but no ability to go anywhere. Thanks, pandemic.

Anyway, I wanted to do something to give back. I considered doing something like volunteering at a soup kitchen or Meals on Wheels, but I really wanted to do something that had minimal exposure to people. By chance, a facebook ad for the SPCA caught my eye. “We need fosters now more than ever”, it said.

So, as one does when feeling bored, bold, and perhaps slightly tipsy, I immediately filled out an application. They responded back the next day to let me know my application was accepted, and that same weekend I was driving home with my first foster kitty .

Her name was Sweet Potato, and to this day she holds a special place in my heart. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on fostering.
